Madonna’s Crotch and Pilates! It must be Friday

Madonna: Chris Hunt Pilates

www.chrishuntwellness.com

Celebrity posts always get a huge reaction in my blogs, usually negative in comments but very positive in the number of hits! So clearly some people feel strongly that I am wasting their time with such posts, but numbers never lie… :)

So this is my compromise. Friday is now my day for celebrity Pilates posts. #pilatescelebfriday As I have explained before, I am not obsessed with celebrity. I have never bought Hello Magazine. What I am obsessed with is Pilates. And whilst not every one agrees with me, it’s my opinion that if someone starts Pilates because their favourite celebrity does Pilates, then why not? If a celebrity tries to grab a few headlines by attributing his or her shape/success/abs to Pilates and a few million people read that article, what harm can that possibly do to Pilates? I think no harm at all because it’s our job as teachers to use that enthusiasm people have and turn it into reality.

I’ve had all the comments about glamorising Pilates, about how privileged celebrities are, about creating false hope, about living on a different planet from “real life”. Whilst I respect the opinion of everyone, it is my humble opinion that these people are missing the point of my posts and they are taking everything way to seriously. All I am doing is raising the awareness of Pilates. Plain and simple. And if you do not understand that, then I am sorry for wasting your time and please do not read my blog on a Friday! :)

Today I talk again about the Queen of Pilates, Madonna. It’s her56th birthday next week and still there is an obsession with her in the world’s media. This week she was pictured on a yacht with her family enjoying a summer holiday. Of course she is still the Queen of manipulating the media as well, as this week she posted on her Instagram account a picture of her crotch. To see the picture  and what all the fuss is about, click here.

She will be releasing her 13th studio album soon, which as one of her lifelong fans (I’ve seen her perform love a few times, the high-light was live at Wembley Stadium) I am looking forward to see and hear how she has reinvented herself again.

But of course, the thing I love most about Madonna is her Pilates practise. She has been a loyal Pilates fan for so many years now and her condition show’s that her commitment has been well worth it!

Madonna is a very worthy Friday Pilates Celebrity! Enjoy your day and your weekend. I’ll be back on Monday with a more serious article about Pilates, healthy and wellness. Until then….

Kathleen Turner: Pilates helped fight rheumatoid arthritis

Kathleen 2

www.chrishuntwellness.com

It can be inspiring (if not a little tiring) to see an article about another actress with a flat belly that she has achieved through Pilates. My blog today is about a famous actress, but it is an altogether more inspiring story, and another great example of why Pilates has changed so many people’s lives. Kathleen Turner says it saved her life.

The 59-year-old was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 1992 and has had 12 operations over a 12 year period to combat the painful disease.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the joints. The main symptoms are joint pain and swelling.  You can find out more by clicking on www.arthritisresearchuk.org.

Kathleen was told that she would spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair after she was reduced to shuffling up stairs on her bottom. However Kathleen, who is currently starring in the new West End production, Bakersfield Mist, says she maintains her strength and flexibility because she practices Pilates. ‘Pilates, baby! Twice a week. Pilates saved my life,’ the actress told The Times Newspaper in London.

Rheumatoid arthritis in women can be common for those in their late 30s and early 40s, after they have given birth. Kathleen was told by a physician that she would spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair, but rather than accept the diagnosis, she fired that doctor and endured a staggering number of surgeries.

She shot to cinematic fame opposite William Hurt in the 1981 classic Body Heat, and over the years has proven her worth in films like Romancing The Stone, Peggy Sue Got Married, and even voiced the animated character of Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Now she is back on the stage and citing Pilates as the main reason why she can still act.

Another Pilates “good news” story. It works for Kathleen, and it works for over 11 million people who regularly do Pilates around the world.

The Lady is just Gaga for Pilates

Lady Gaga knows a thing or two about controversy, but she also knows a thing or two about the best way to rehabilitate after an injury.

The singer famous for songs such as Poker Face, cancelled her world tour last year to undergo hip surgery, and was confined to a wheelchair. She was seen soon after successful surgery in Chicago attending Pilates classes.

She hired out the whole studio, and whilst some accused her of taking her celebrity status too far, experienced Pilates teachers will agree that when rehabilitating from a specific injury, private sessions are by far the best (if not the only) way to ensure specific treatment.

It is no surprise to know that Pilates helps her keep her wonderful figure, and she is never shy to show the world the results of her training.

Her World Tour will reach my city of Barcelona this year, so I can see first hand what kind of shape she is in.

Lady Gaga is looking great and getting better with the help of a little pilates.

Gaga has been spending a lot of time in Chicago as of late, with her boyfriend Taylor Kinney (“Chicago Fire”). According to a local pilates instructor, Gaga rented out a local studio for private sessions earlier this month and didn’t seem to be in pain during their first session.

“It was myself and another trainer in the studio with [Gaga] and her personal assistant. She seems to be in good health. She was walking around totally fine,” Corinne Clifton shared with the Chicago Tribune. “She didn’t seem to be in pain, but we were also going really slow.  I felt like she could have done more, maybe, but we also didn’t want to push her the first time.”

As widely reported, the “Born This Way” and “Judas” singer has been recuperating from surgery following a tear in her right hip.

According to the instructor, Gaga came prepared to the studio with very little make up, black stretch pants and a black t-shirt.

“She’s very pretty and in great shape,” said instructor Clifton.

Uma Thurman: Pilates at 30,000 feet

umawww.chrishuntwellness.com

She is an actress and a former model. And Uma Thurman’s toned body shows no signs of any middle-age spread. So how does the mother-of-three do it? Thurman, 43, says she ‘fits in workouts when she can’ with plenty of walking, Pilates and yoga. She also stays active with regular snowboarding, skiing and horse riding so she has a nice range of activities to keep her fit and in shape.

She began her career as a model, yet, after so many years and childbirth, she is still one of the fittest, most beautiful women in showbiz.

Uma, the Kill Bill star, it seems, is a fervent believer in exercise anywhere, anytime, including  as a passenger on a flight from JFK to Salt Lake City. It’s reported that she started doing yoga and Pilates exercises in the aisle of the plane.
