Hello, so this is me, the person behind the blog. In this article Just who is Chris Hunt anyway I give you a brief outline as to what I have been up to so far.
I’m Buddhist, vegetarian and very happy with life. It has taken me this long to truly answer the question “just who is Chris Hunt”. Whilst we will never have all the answers, I pretty sure I know the most important things. I hope that you are sitting comfortably….
I was born in East London on 14th May. The youngest of four children, I was interested in music and sport from a very early age. As a boy, I played football for my County and I performed on stage in musical productions. I qualified to play piano and guitar, started writing my own songs and gigging solo and with different bands.
My love of sport and fitness continues to this day with snowboarding, surfing, golf, tennis, scuba diving, mountain biking, running and rock climbing.
I also love Kundalini yoga and meditation and I practise them both daily. I spent many weeks in the Buddhist Temples of Bangkok studying Mindfulness Meditation. Whilst I was there I also became qualified in Thai Massage to help my understanding of meridians. I have also studied Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).
I keep myself in shape with all the sports that I love, and daily workouts using functional training techniques and Pilates!
My working career began in the financial markets. I obtained valuable experience and quaIifications (I am ACII qualified). After experiencing many different areas of business and management, I worked for several years as Claims Manager in the City of London, with responsibility for a book of business worth up to £100million. I use all my business knowledge and experience still by acting as a consultant and project manager to both the business and fitness industries. I love the challenge of changing a business for the better whilst making sure that everyone comes along for the journey.
As this blog is about wellness, I will focus on that element of my life. I discovered Pilates 25 years ago whilst working in the City of London, and it has been a passion of mine ever since. My interest in Pilates began as a remedy for back pain, but soon grew into a passionate belief that Pilates can help many people, from those suffering through injury, to elite sportsmen and women looking for a competitive edge. Pilates totally changed my life which is why I will always be passionate about it. I have been heavily involved in rehabilitation through my insurance work in the City with people who have suffered catatrosphic injury, so with my thirst for knowledge I decided to become qualified. I gained Level 3 OCR Qualifications in both Equipment and Mat. With my experience of training and presentation skills, I was asked to travel the world acting as a consultant and educator.
During my travels, I found that people were not getting the best results from their rehabilitation. I wanted to provide a solution to this problem, so I developed my own Pilates systems; Pilates EVO®, Pilates Allstars® and Pilathai®, and my functional training system, bodyFUNC®. These systems are now taught in countries across the world including Russia, Brazil, America, Germany, the UK, Poland, Spain, Latvia, Ukraine, Serbia, Turkey and Greece. Ever since I was a small boy I dreamed about living in Barcelona (my theory is that I must have lived here in a previous life or maybe my mum had a Spanish milkman…) I wanted to help people to enjoy this wonderful City but to also keep fit and healthy, so I run Barcelona Bienestar which offers a range of high quality wellness services and personal training to Super Yachts and exclusive hotels, and also fitness and sports holidays and retreats in and around Barcelona. There are few better places in the world than Barcelona to train, detox, recharge, relax or generally have fun.
I’m still performing my music today (as my neighbours will testify). I will soon record another album of my own songs. It’s a personal thing so I am not looking for or expecting any commercial success. If people like my songs then that is a bonus.
I also created Pilates Carnival (www.pilatescarnival.com).
I was tired of commercialism and seeing the same old faces and classes at every convention. So Pilates Carnivals are conventions that are totally non-profit, designed to bring together the Pilates community, and give new teachers a chance on the stage. All profits made through sponsorship or donations are given to local children’s charities. You can read more about Pilates Carnival by clicking on this link: “A fitness convention that doesn’t make a profit? Now that is a breath of fresh air”
I meditate at a local Buddhist Centre, and I still love to travel and this year I will add to the growing list of countries I have visited. My opinion is that to move towards a more insular existance is totally the wrong thing to do. I do not chose to live in only one dimension.
Giving is a vital part of my philosophy on life. I raise money every year for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital by organising events such as golf days and concerts, and I ran the Sydney Marathon in 2006 on behalf of the charity. Running a marahon is well and truly off my bucket list now!
Just who is Chris Hunt anyway? As you see it is complicated, but in this life I want to achieve as much as I can. Whilst there are many elements, there are also common threads that tie everything together.
But enough about me. This conversation is way too one-sided. Please tell me about you…. Contact me by completing the form below or by clicking on www.pilatesevo.com.
